Rachel Wiles – Painting and textiles artist.
My great passion and main influences of my works are seascape/landscapes, in particular, the countryside of my home, in the Waveney Valley.
I work with a wide range of mixed media, layering of acrylics, collaged papers, found items from the subject area and a hint of gold leaf!.
Using layers of glazes and areas of saturated colour, I lay a foundation to which I then distort and manipulate the surfaces and materials. I use a combination of techniques to scratch, rub, print and sad areas to give texture and detail.
These techniques also translate into my textile and embroidered pieces by layering the fabrics, manipulating them and embroidering, to give areas of detail.
I work intuitively and experimentally not having any fixed or preconceived ideas with my aim purely to evoke emotions felt of a place, evocative colours and the atmospheric nature of the subject.
