New artwork from three HWAT artists, Sara Johnson, Gill Levin and Chris Mound, will feature in a forthcoming art exhibition at the Aldeburgh Gallery, entitled Britten’s Birthday Bonanza, to coincide with the Britten Centenary celebrations this weekend. The internationally acclaimed British composer Benjamin Britten was born on November 22nd 1913 in Lowestoft, and later co-founded the now famous Aldeburgh Music Festival in 1948 with his partner Peter Pears. Sara Johnson will be showing new paintings inspired by the unique atmosphere of the Alde estuary & coastal area so beloved by Britten, alongside oil paintings by Gill Levin and hand printed woodcuts by Chris Mound. Britten’s Birthday Bonanza will also include small paintings and other selected artworks, including prints, ceramics and textiles, by many of the artists associated with the HWAT collective: Jane Callender, Caryl Challis, Noelle Francis, Alan Frewin, Hannah Giffard, Denise Goddard, Christina Greathead, Jazz Green, Sue Laughlin, Rose Martin, Lin Patterson, Tim Summerson, Dinny Turner and Andrew Vessey.
Britten’s Birthday Bonanza at the Aldeburgh Gallery runs from Thursday November 21st to Wednesday 27th November 2013, open daily 10am – 5pm.
