HWAT has a number of exhibitions lined up for 2014 in celebration of the tenth anniversary of The Harleston & Waveney Art Trail.

HWAT News : 2014 Tenth Anniversary of the Art Trail

2014 is the tenth year of the Harleston & Waveney Art Trail (HWAT), as artists open their art studios in and around the Harleston and Bungay area of the Waveney Valley. A number of the original artists who collaborated in 2004 continue to open their studios alongside more recent members.

HWAT is now thirty-nine strong with thirty artists opening studios this year and nine artists taking a sabbatical. We are delighted to still be offering visitors a wide variety of artworks, paintings, drawings, textiles, mosaics, and prints.

The Harleston Gallery became a hub for the Art Trail, with its very popular showcase & mini-artworks exhibitions showing a range of HWAT artists’ work. The adjoining Harleston Gallery café was a popular place for artists and others to meet over a light brunch or cake and coffee. In 2008 the gallery changed location and opened in the old Gurneys building in Harleston, with bigger, brighter premises and a wonderful exhibiting space. The Harleston Gallery closed when the owner retired.

In 2013 the HWAT collective made the decision to become an exhibiting art group – in addition to opening their studios – to exhibit locally and further afield. The first group exhibition was at the Peter Pears Gallery in Aldeburgh in September 2013, the work of all the artists coming together in a harmony of colour and interest. The show attracted many visitors and HWAT were then offered a second group exhibition in Aldeburgh In November 2013 coinciding with the Benjamin Britten Centenary Festival.

We will be commencing our 10th Anniversary celebrations in April 2014 with two exhibitions: a special exhibition of all new small or mini artworks for sale at the Fisher Theatre in Bungay; and a new group exhibition, A Sense of Place’, at The Pond Gallery at Snape Maltings, Suffolk.

The mini-works art exhibition is entitled ‘Bag a Mystery Masterpiece’ as the identities of the artists behind the artworks will be a secret until they are sold! We will have a special ‘meet the artists’ preview on Tuesday 15 April 2014, 7 – 8.30pm.
