I use torn paper, collage and transfer printing techniques and a range of media (paint, charcoal, chalks, pen and ink) to build layers and introduce a random element into my work. I am drawn to the close-up or the long view and rarely depict a middle ground.
‘Grandmothers, Godmothers, Matriarchs and Angels‘ are a group of works that challenges the invisibility of older women, inspired by the beauty of lived-in faces where the experiences of long and complex lives are etched into the features. These are not specific portraits but depictions of constructed archetypes – guardians, guides, teachers and dreamers. My other interests are in landscape and nature-themed work inspired by the Waveney Valley.
