My work is inspired by the love of the Waveney Valley, particularly the river at Earsham and Bungay, and the inexhaustible variety of scenery at places like Dunwich and Covehithe – areas I have known all my life.
Working in oil and acrylic on canvas, I have a grounding in traditional landscape painting while my personal style uses paint manipulation techniques such as dripping, blotting and splattering. This spontaneous way of working embraces my love of the spirit of chance and randomness.
Each piece is then developed around a tightly designed final image with details picked out in gold leaf giving a decorative twist.
A self taught artist, I have been painting, developing and refining my art for over 30 years. Academia includes a BA (Hons) in Illustration from Kingston University, and City & Guilds in graphics/printmaking.
My history in the graphics, journalism and art & design industry manifests itself in the approach to my work as well as the design elements and finish, and he final paintings are mounted in my own hand-made wooden frames as I feel it is important to offer a ‘complete Artbear experience’.
I have had several solo exhibitions and participated in many group shows here and around the UK as well as giving talks and demos of my work.
As well as an artist (known as Artbear), I am an electronic music composer and recording artist (under the name of Sineflesh) and my work has recently been launched on the fashion shop http://shopvida.com/collections/voices/paul-zawadzki.
