Rosemary Elliott

My work is inspired by the natural world where I am frequently drawn to vast open spaces in the land, water and sky that surround us. Following a visit I made to Queensland last year I have been working on a series of new paintings using strong light and vibrant colours to instil a sense of drama and mystery. Rather than re-creating a landscape on canvas, I aim to express its essence and deeper symbolism.

Rosemary trained at the Royal Academy Schools in the 1960s and was strongly influenced by Pop Art and the Photo Realists with exhibitions in London and East Anglia. She lectured in Fine Art at Harrow School of Art, Middlesex and the Camden Institute, London and co-ordinated teacher training in art and design for Mid Essex towards the end of her teaching career.

She regularly exhibits with the East Anglia Group, a collective of professional artists, all former students of the RA Schools who work and live in the region.
