I work with cloth, stitch, drawing, and photography to capture moments in time and place. I often colour vintage domestic textiles and table linens which suggest home, family, work and lives lived. I enjoy the feeling of connection with the past evoked when handling these fabrics and when using traditional techniques in unexpected ways.
The qualities and textures of materials are used to record plants, wildflowers, grasses and the Norfolk/Suffolk landscape that surrounds me linking culture with nature. I explore the potential of techniques, collage, free motion machining, hand embroidery and mark making with thread translating ideas into form.
It pleases me to produce a variety of artworks, framed pieces, handmade cards and handmade textile objects often using good, recycled materials whenever possible.
I’ve had a career in teaching in the Southeast until relocating to Starston in Norfolk in 2004 since when have been developing my own work and practice. Painting, drawing and stich have been my long standing interests with more formal training in London in the 1980’s and Masters in Textile Culture in 2010 at Norwich. I have exhibited in the London area, the Midlands, Stavanger in Norway and locally in Norfolk and Suffolk.
