Nicci Dedman – Open in 2024 – Studio 9

My sculptures are fundamentally made of metal wire and come from a fascination of what can be achieved using wire alone. I use steel wire and/or mesh which is worked by hand manipulating the wires to form the subject, the result being an integral completely three dimensional piece. Each piece is individually made to be either self supporting, a wall piece or to be displayed in an appropriate vessel.

My inspiration has been nature. I have been able to reflect on the joy of nature both in a floral and a wildlife form, as viewed from my home and studio on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. In the wildlife subjects I try to capture one pose showing movement. The floral subjects are made with detailed attention given to the anatomy of the flower, such pieces often show the buds and flower heads depicting it’s growth among other detail as required by the composition and vessel.

My most recent work explores domestic furniture in the garden. Here I use the wire mesh to give an upholstered/fabric feel. These pieces are attractive to the eye but also are fully functional as garden seating.
