Dom Theobald

With a well-received exhibition in 2023 in Trentino, Italy and  widely admired cover paintings in 2020 for a Brian and Roger Eno vinyl LP, Dom Theobald’s artistic profile has increased hugely in recent times. Many of his new paintings and etchings take as their departure point his experience of the East Anglian landscape – he has lived here since the mid-1990s – and coastline. “Into these scenes” he writes, “I have placed forms: houses and rivers, trees and paths, boats and clouds. These are rhythmic images. To my mind they are as full of sounds as colour. I have always conflated images and sounds – to me they are the same things at different points along continuums. Both solid, both ethereal. Painting starts with elements and with abstraction, and relies on rhythm, repetition, rhyme and the spaces between. These images inhabit this territory.”

As well as paintings and etchings, Dom is also currently working on a commissioned digital film project for Buonconsiglio Castle in Trento, due for exhibition in late 2025.
