I am a figurative artist – a realist – generally working directly from my own observations. I aim to communicate something of how I feel about each subject while concentrating on the discipline of direct drawing and painting (“alla prima”) from life. I regularly paint the East Anglian landscape (in particular the Waveney and Blyth Valleys) including compositions that may also feature figures and animals in a natural setting.
Some of my studio paintings include aspects of memory, allegory and narrative. There is usually a selection of figure drawings – and a small number of pictures also available as “studio clearance” together with greetings cards and prints taken from my original artwork.
Malcolm is widely respected for his mentoring and tuition in “traditional” drawing and painting techniques and has appeared many times on the Painting and Drawing TV Channel. He is a regular contributor to “Paint” magazine and demonstrates to art groups all over the UK. He is a Silver Signature Member of the UK Coloured Pencil Society (past editor of the Society’s magazine) and a member of several other formal and informal art groups. His commissioned and other work is in many private collections and features in the international marketing of several UK manufactured art products. His instructional DVD set – “Yes You Can Draw” has inspired and encouraged countless artists in the UK and abroad.
