I originally trained in textiles as a weaver with a later move into garden design & finally painting, and have always looked to the landscape for inspiration. I have periods of painting in watercolour; a fast but risky, loose style, aiming to capture the atmosphere and spirit of a place. At the moment though, I am focusing on working with acrylic and mixed media on board and exploring the use of texture by scratching and sanding back into multiple layers of paint, revealing traces of what came before.
Having spent my childhood by the sea in South Hampshire & now living in the Waveney Valley, it is no coincidence that water is a recurring theme in my work. I have developed a strong connection to the watery margins, reed beds and big skies and I am frequently drawn to paint the estuaries of the Blyth, Alde & Deben. I exhibit regularly in Aldeburgh, Woodbridge & Snape Maltings.
